The Borgen Project is an international humanitarian organization that works at the political level to improve living conditions for people impacted by war, famine and poverty.
Their internship and volunteer programmes provide experience in advocacy, mobilising and fundraising, coupled with real industry exposure and an insight into the non-profit world.
Internship Location: The programmes are based online, so can be undertaken from any location.
Internship Start Dates: We have new programmes starting every month, as such applications can be received at any time, through our website. Team members choose the start date that is most appropriate for them.
Mentoring and Supervision: All of our roles have a designated manager who will ensure that our team members are offered an induction to the program and then support throughout the role with regular online catch-up calls, training/discussion sessions, and are a point of contact for any questions or concerns throughout the programme.

London Political Affairs Programmes
This is a part-time 12-hours per week, unpaid remote programme. The programme is for 12 weeks, however, if your availability is limited, you can work ahead and complete the programme in fewer weeks.
Responsibilities
Leading public and political outreach in your region.
Meet with local government.
Represent The Borgen Project at various business, political and community events.
Assist with fundraising. Create a personal fundraising campaign and meet targets.
Mobilise individuals to contact their government officials in support of key poverty-reduction legislation.
As needed, speak to groups, classes and organisations.
Write letters of support for key programmes to political leaders, media and other groups.
Qualifications
Outstanding writing skills.
Self-starter who can produce great results with limited supervision.
Strong oral communication skills and ability to lead meetings and give speeches.

London Writer/Journalist Programmes
This is a part-time 12-hours per week, unpaid remote programme. The programme is for 12 weeks, however, if your availability is limited, you can work ahead and complete the programme in fewer weeks. The selected candidate will be able to work from home and pick their own schedule, but must meet weekly deadlines. Articles submitted will appear on BORGEN Magazine or The Borgen Project Blog.
Responsibilities
Write one article per week.
Research topics.
Assist with mobilizing efforts.
Assist with fundraising. Create a personal fundraising campaign and meet targets.
Qualifications
Strong research and writing skills.
Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines with very little supervision.
Experience writing SEO friendly content is helpful, but not required.

London Nonprofit Leadership Programmes
This is a part-time 12-hours per week, unpaid remote programme. The programme is for 12 weeks, however, if your availability is limited, you can work ahead and complete the programme in fewer weeks. This role will give an insight into the key skills required to lead and develop a non-profit organisation.
Responsibilities
Advocacy: Meet with local government; represent The Borgen Project at various business; political and community events; mobilise individuals to contact their government officials in support of key poverty-reduction legislation; as needed, speak to groups, classes and organisations; write letters of support for key programmes to political leaders, media and other groups.
Fundraising Development: Learn how to fundraise (create a personal fundraising campaign and meet targets).
Recruitment: Update job postings; inform groups and classes of openings; introduction to recruitment platforms; and listening in to interviews.
Marketing and Promotion: Pitch story ideas to print, broadcast and digital media; and utilise social media and develop strategies for web-based messaging.

Utilise social media and develop strategies for web-based messaging.

London Human Resources Programmes
This is a part-time 12-hours per week, unpaid remote programme. The programme is for 12 weeks, however, if your availability is limited, you can work ahead and complete the programme in fewer weeks. This role will focus on international recruitment as well as teaching you the basics of HR Management, Recruiting & Selection and Staff Training & Development.
Responsibilities
Update job postings using various platforms (when applicable).
Inform groups and classes of openings.
Everyone who is part of the organisation assists the team with fundraising, 25-hours of this position is dedicated to creating and implementing a personal fundraising campaign.
Assist with mobilising efforts.

YOUTH AMBASSADOR/ADVOCATE
This is a great entry-level volunteer position if you are looking to make a change in the world. The program is particularly suited to high school students and those with limited availability.

Key Responsibilities:
Serve as an ambassador for the world’s poor. Build awareness of the issues and ways people can help.

Qualifications:
Excellent overall communication skills: oral, written, presentation.
Ability to self-manage and prioritize assignments.
